Fitness Contests

For the last several months I've been helping to organize a handful of "fitness contests" amoungst my friends for fun. These are quarterly contests. You can see the results of previous quarter's contests at the bottom of this page. But here at the top, is the info for the current contests.

(+) indicated that the last reading is at or above the contestant's goal, and thus bonus points and modified scoring for further progress are included.

2002 Q2 Contest Rules

For each contest, the winner will be the person with the highest "score" as of 30 June 2002 at 23:59:59 GMT. Each participating player who does not win in a contest, will pay the winner a "prize" of one dollar for each point scored. Anybody can join so long as they follow the rules below. Reporting is by the honor system via emails to me at abulsme@abulsme.com. Please do not cheat.

Weight Loss Contest

Loss will be measured as loss from the FIRST reading provided by the contestant. The first reading must be provided prior to 7 Apr 2002 23:59:59 GMT. The contestant must at the time of their first reading declare a "Loss Goal". The Goal must be at least 5 pounds for woman, and 7 pounds for men. The score will then be two points per pound lost up until the goal is reached, followed by one point per pound for any additional pounds lost beyond the goal. An additional ten point bonus will be given for reaching the goal. If pounds are gained back, the points are also lost. A "final reading" must be given sometime between 24 Jun 2002 00:00:00 GMT and 30 Jun 2002 23:59:59 GMT. Readings should be sent to me at least once a week for the charting of intermediate results. In any given case, the rules can be overriden or changed by a majority vote of those participating.

Reduction of Percentage Body Fat

The score will then be two points per %BF lost up until the goal is reached, followed by one point per %BF lost for any additional %BF lost beyond the goal. An additional ten point bonus will be given for reaching the goal. If BF is gained back, the points are also lost. A "final reading" must be given sometime between 24 Jun 2002 00:00:00 GMT and 30 Jun 2002 23:59:59 GMT. Readings should be sent to me at least once a week for the charting of intermediate results. In any given case, the rules can be overriden or changed by a majority vote of those participating.

Running Speed

The first reading (time in seconds) must be provided prior to 7 Apr 2002 23:59:59 GMT. The reading must consist of a distance and a time, thus producing a speed. Once a distance has been used in the contest, the same distance must be used for all subsequent readings. The score will simply be the percentage improvement between the worst speed reading of the contest up until that reading and the current reading. A "final reading" must be given sometime between 24 Jun 2002 00:00:00 GMT and 30 Jun 2002 23:59:59 GMT. Readings should be sent to me at least once a week for the charting of intermediate results. In any given case, the rules can be overriden or changed by a majority vote of those participating.
